There are two methods to get your old currency of Rs.500/- and Rs.1000/- exchanged.

You can deposit discontinued Rs.500/- and Rs.1000/- notes in your bank account without any limit or you can get exchange your old discontinued notes up to Rs.2000/- per person from bank or post office by providing your photocopy of ID Proof and filling the Request Slip for Exchange of Old High Denomination Bank Notes.

If you are depositing the old discontinued notes to your bank account then there is no limit you can deposit as much amount you want in your bank account, and also there is no need to provide any additional documents like POI or POA.
