How to Scan on the HP Officejet Pro 8600

The HP Officejet Pro 8600 all-in-one-printer allows you to scan photos and documents to either your computer, email, or to a folder on your network. All scans can be saved as either PDF files, JPEG images, or editable text.

Scanning Documents to a Computer

1.Verify that the HP full-feature software is installed on your computer. The software will be listed under either the Programs or Applications folder on your computer, and is required for scanning documents from the Officejet Pro 8600 to your computer.
  • Download the HP full-feature software from http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Officejet-Pro-8600-e-All-in-One-Printer-series---N9/4322914/model/4323658/drivers if it is not already installed on your computer.
2.Power on your printer and verify that it is connected to your computer via USB cable or either a wired or wireless network connection.
  • If using a Windows computer connected to a network, open the HP software and click on “Scanner Actions > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable.”
3.Lift the lid of the scanner on the printer and place the item you want scanned face down on the scanner glass. You must position the item using the engraved guides positioned along the edge of the glass.

4.Close the lid of the scanner.

5.Tap on “Scan” on the printer’s control panel.

6.Tap on “Computer,” then tap on the name of your computer.

7.Select the type of file you want your item saved as on the computer.

8.Tap on “Start Scan.

9.Tap on “No” when asked if you want to scan another item to save your file to your computer. The folder on your computer in which the scan has been saved will then automatically open on your computer.
  • Alternately, tap on “Yes” if you want to scan another item and save it as the file type you selected.
